MPO PETER J. LAVERY MEMORIAL RUN

The 13th Annual MPO Peter Lavery Memorial Run is being held on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017 at Churchill Park, Newington. This ride is in memory of MPO Peter J. Lavery who was killed in the line of duty on December 30, 2004 while responding to a domestic violence call. It is an event that honors the sacrifice he made, celebrates his life and keeps his memory alive. All proceeds benefit the Peter J. Lavery Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc.

MPO Lavery was an avid motorcycle rider throughout his adult life and was proud to be selected to serve on Newington Police Departmentís motorcycle unit. This annual motorcycle ride is a very fitting tribute!

Registration takes place from 8:00 Ė 9:45 am. All law enforcement supporters on all makes of motorcycles are welcome. The ride departs at 10:00 from Churchill Park and is escorted by many local motor officers from throughout our state. The ride is held rain or shine. The route takes the riders from Churchill Park, Newington through Berlin, Rocky Hill, Cromwell, Middletown, Portland, Glastonbury, and Wethersfield before returning to Churchill Park at about 11:15, pending all appropriate permits are granted.

It takes a tremendous amount of support from our community to hold this ride and a number of local businesses offer their financial support and assistance.

We thank Pat Whelan of the State Police Pipes & Drums and Sue Lavery Hilerio for performing at our opening ceremony.

We thank all of the motor units who come out to ride and keep all of riders safe.

We thank the many volunteers who offer their time in the days working up to the ride and on ride day to put on an amazing event.

We thank all of the riders who come out for our ride, some traveling great distances to attend, some have come each and every year, some are first time Lavery rider riders! We appreciate that you support us and ride in memory of MPO Peter J. Lavery!

We sincerely thank everyone who helps or supports our ride in ways big and small.

I thank the committee members who work for many months leading up, for all of their time planning the many details that are involved.

We will miss this year, Jimmy Brown, prominent businessman in Newington. He has been with us since the inception of the Peter Lavery Memorial Ride in 2005 by hosting our ride at the former Maquire's Sports and Grill on the Berlin Turnpike or as of late, working collaboratively with Stew Leonardís to provide our lunch at Churchill Park. He is unfortunately unable to attend this year and is leaving very large shoes to fill.

And lastly, we thank Curt Potter from Stew Leonardís, who has offered to volunteer his time and talent to fill those very large shoes. He will be our head guy responsible for cooking all of those hotdogs and hamburgers for all of guests.

Hope to see you on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the 12th Annual Peter Lavery Memorial Ride!
