PETER J. LAVERY SCHOLARSHIP FUND
The Peter J. Lavery Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc. was established by Peter’s family shortly after his death to
honor and remember the ultimate sacrifice he made.
Peter was a strong believer in the opportunities that education
provided. He encouraged high school students and adults to further
their education at the college level. This was an important goal for
him as well. Peter earned his Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement
from Middlesex Community College in May, 1990 and a Bachelor’s
Degree in General Studies from Eastern Connecticut State University
in December, 1996. He accomplished this goal of his just five months
prior to his 40th birthday.
Scholarship Eligibility
Eligibility is open to a child of a Newington Police Officer, or
high school student attending Newington High School, Berlin High
School, or other local area high school, who is entering the field
of Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice, or a local college student
currently enrolled in a law enforcement/criminal justice program.
Application Process
The applicant must complete an application, provide a current
transcript and submit an essay. Scholarships are awarded annually
upon review and recommendation of the executive board.
Non-Profit Scholarship Fund Executive board members are volunteers and no salaries are paid. The
executive board includes: Pamela Lavery, President; Raymond Lavery,
Vice President; Samantha Lavery Grady, Secretary; Amy Andreana,
Treasurer.
To date the scholarship fund has distributed over $190,000 to students in
the fields of Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice.

The Peter J. Lavery Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc. is a non-profit scholarship
fund exempt from federal income tax under section 501 (c) (3) of the
Internal Revenue Code. Contributions to the scholarship fund are
deductible under section 170 of the Code. |
